Artist Profile – Joscelin Chew
About Joscelin Chew
Born in Singapore, Joscelin completed a BA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London in 2015. She is interested in deep topography and the practice of walking – the experience of the walking process disrupted by the medium-format camera, which serves as a mediating device between the image and the experience. Her practice explores ways of looking at images, the visual culture of the aerial view, the experience of drawing in relation to photography as well as notions of abstraction. She also works on site-specific community projects, looking into the everyday life of people in specific neighbourhoods of Singapore through conversations, architecture and non-living objects, investigating issues of private and public, environmental concerns and the everyday. Since graduation, she has presented her work in various exhibitions including OH!pen Call (2016) in Potong Pasir. She was also part of the Young Printmakers League Mentorship Programme (2017) by Monster Gallery.
